SKILL LEVELS: THE CAROUSEL METHOD

Almost nothing can make or break your camp experience like being on the right court for your skill level. This is why we invented the Carousel Method to ensure you always have level-appropriate drill partners.

Based on your DUPR and visual assessment, we group you with 4-8 players within .25 of your skill level. Then, every 15-30 minutes you rotate drill partners within your group, ensuring that meet 6-8 new players in a day and that every partnership is competitive and enjoyable. If you prefer to play with partners of a certain gender or age range, we also take that into consideration when forming your group.

At our last destination camp in Baja, we welcomed players ranging from 3.0 to 5.2—with an even 50/50 split below and above 4.0. Despite this range, Jilly's coaching philosophy remains consistent: she teaches every player like they're capable of reaching 5.0+. Concepts are never dumbed down based on skill level. While drills are adapted to each group's abilities, the language, themes, and strategic concepts remain the same across all courts. A 3.0 hears the same high-level instruction as a 5.0—because every player deserves to learn the game the right way from day one.

Before playing professional pickleball full-time, she was the CEO of DUPR, a startup founder, tech CEO, and collegiate D1 scholarship tennis player from Pepperdine University. Jill has also qualified for 3 USGA Mid-Amateur Championships in golf. Off the court, you'll find her reading non-fiction, crushing NYT puzzles or cooking.

KRISTIN WALLA

A former D1 golfer at Texas, Kristin turned pro in 2010 and has been playing & coaching ever since. Also a Junior Olympic medalist in freestyle skiing, Kristin brings her multi-sport background to her pickleball coaching.

When she’s not playing pickleball, she's busy as Jilly B’s mental coach, drill partner, and wife! Obsessed with sport psychology and continuously learning new skills, Kristin also sings, plays the ukulele, edits most of the Jilly B content you see (including this website!), and loves puzzles.

lauren smith headshot edited smile.png

LAUREN SMITH

Lauren grew up with a paddle in her hand—tennis, that is. Years of time on the tennis court gave her a strong foundation in footwork, strategy, and competitive spirit, shaping not only her athletic skills but her love for racquet sports from a young age.

In December 2024, Lauren’s sisters introduced her to pickleball over the holidays—and she instantly caught the bug. What started as a fun family activity quickly became her new passion. She loved the sport’s fast pace, dynamic strategy, and welcoming community, and loves a good speed up.

Pickleball is as much about joy and connection as it is about improvement and plays with the mindset of “Play Smart, Have Fun, Always Attack”.
